Jazba

Interspersed with monologues, dialogues, plot, music, chorus, rhythm, masks, make ups and beats that speak of talent, creativity, passion and achievement, social messages in every performance make Jazba a king of experimental theatre groups.

Jazba Theatre Group is the dramatics society of Ramanujan College. Since our inception 9 years ago we have believed and loved theatre for we hold that a stage is the best way to bring out the emotions that are well caught up in an actor. We believe that theatre is what brings out the best in a person and we want to encourage the talent inside each of us to proliferate. With this thought we had our auditions from 7th & 8th August 2013. A huge number of 250 showed up, registered and headed to join the group. With more excitement in us we got down to the number of selecting 40 people through rounds like ‘group discussion’, ‘music round’, ‘facting Round’ and ‘personal Interview’. An 8 day workshop was organised for the young guns given by the alumnus of Jazba. The workshops helped to give them a look of the theatre we indulge in. Ranging from improvisations, handicrafts, poetry and observation skills, there were various activities organised for them. At the end of the 8-day workshop we were more anxious than them to increase our family further. We came down to selecting the best 10. With that began the journey where we never looked back.

This year was a jam packed, a year full of performances and success too. Jazba took its productions to those places where the group had never performed before. Be it performing in Mood Indigo- IIT Bombay, or for the first time launching its stage production Tauliye in Sahitya Kala Parishad’s (S.K.P) prestigious theatre festival- Mahavidyalaya Natya Samaroh. We even got the chance to host the preliminaries of this event in our own college. Jazba broke all its past records, securing over 30 positions in competitions across Delhi. Besides Tauliye Jazba performed 2 of its best street productions: Chhota Muh Badi Baat’ & Bhookh.

On 13th March Jazba organized its prestigious annual theatre fest Sagar Nagpal Memorial Nukkad Natak Competition 2015. The chief guests for this annual theatre festival were eminent theatre personality and secretary of Sahitya Kala Parishad J.P. Singh and his wife Chitra Singh.  Every year Jazba Theatre Group, the dramatics society of Ramanujan College organizes this event in the memory of their former member lt.Sagar Nagpal. Out of 44 teams, 12 were selected for the main event in a preliminary face-off which was held on 4th March. These 12 teams of colleges across Delhi participated in this event and performed plays on various topics like religion, dying art forms and other common social issues. Almost an audience of 1000-1500 people attended, not only from the host college but from all over Delhi University to be a part of one of the few exclusive theatre fests across DU. We are glad to tell everyone that this competition has become one of the biggest theatre competitions in D.U.

It was a wonderful year with its ups and downs that bound us more as a family and less as a group. We have always felt a pleasure in representing Ramanujan College and we will continue to feel so. Bidding adieu to the year 2014-2015, we pledge to take the name of Jazba and the college to even greater heights and achieve our dreams in the upcoming years. Because, for us, the sky is the limit and the stage is our home. Drama is Life!
